OSMO Polyx Oil, part of the Osmo oil and woodcare range, and offers a wood finish that combines the benefits of natural oils and waxes in one. A stain resistant, water repellent and abrasion resistant oil, it is perfect for interior wooden floors and furniture. Offering an even finish thanks to plant based ingredients, this wooden floor oil is super quick to apply without even the need for a primer or sanding. Resistant to cracks, peeling and flaking, it is a hard wearing choice that is safe for use on children’s toys and furniture as well.

Preparation and Application of Osmo Polyx-Oil

To prepare the surface, ensure the wood is clean and dry with any microporous stain thoroughly washed and any cracks or holes in the wood filled adequately.

For best results, always try a small, discreet area before full application. To apply in full, we recommend using the Osmo Flat Brush, Floor Brush, Roller or Fleece Applicator with Hand Pad Holder. Do not thin the oil, simply apply a thin coat along the wood grain and spread well. Leave to dry for between 8-10 hours with good ventilation. After drying, apply a second coat thinly. After 2-3 weeks the surface will be fully cured. If applying to a surface that has already been oiled, one coat is enough. Do not apply too generously or drying times will be extended.

OSMO Polyx Oil enhances the natural tone of wood, offering a permanent wet effect. Available in four finishes, matt, satin, gloss and semi-matt, wood surfaces treated with Polyx®-Oil are highly repellent and easy to maintain.

Please note that for dark and extractive-rich hardwoods (e.g. Wenge, Merbau, Jatoba etc.), we recommend using Osmo Wood Wax Finish Clear Extra Thin instead and for cork surfaces, due to their high absorbency please ensure that the wood finish is applied especially thinly. On cork, longer drying times are to be taken into consideration (at least 24 hours).

Caution: Apply max. one coat thinly to cabinet interiors and drawers with a cloth.

If a higher gloss level is desired use Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner very thinly and polish when dry. Avoid using Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner on surfaces that have not dried and cured properly. Using general or multi-purpose cleaners will increase the frequency of maintenance and recoating, instead we suggest the Osmo Anti Bacterial Spray or Osmo Wash and Care. Allow finish to fully cure before heavy usage. S

Customer Questions
How to apply Osmo Poly X Oil?
For best results, stir the tin thoroughly before and during application. Load your brush and remove any excess. On first application, you want to apply a thin first coat, in manageable areas working with the grain, removing any excess with a cloth and leave to dry. Once your first coat of Osmo Poly X Oil has dried, take your finishing pad and lightly sand your finished area. Following this, apply a second and final coat similar to the first - ensuring you remove any excess after this application.
How many coats of Osmo Polyx Oil is needed?
Using a roller or brush to apply Osmo Polyx Oil we recommend a maximum of two coats for best protection and also to ensure this penetrates the wood. When using a cloth to apply we suggest three to four coats to ensure the correct amount is applied and correctly penetrates through the wood.
How to use Osmo Polyx Oil?
Osmo Polyx Oil is best used as a hard wax oil on interior wooden surfaces to help protect wood, perfect for use on wooden floors, wooden kitchen worktops, wooden doors etc. For best results and how to use Osmo Polyx Oil we recommend you apply 2 coats using a roller or brush, or alternatively, if you prefer you can also use a cloth which we suggest 3-4 coats via this application method.
How long does it take Osmo Polyx Oil to cure?
Osmo Polyx Oils typically have a curing time of approximately 10 - 14 days. During this period, maximise circulation of air, remove anything covering the wood's surface and keep traffic in the area as low as possible.
Is it ok for sawn fence
No, The Osmo Polyx-Oil Matt is only for interior use.
Can I use Osmo Polyx oil on some green oak beams in our living room as they will take a few years before they have lost their moisture. If not what would you recommend?
No, We would not recommend applying the Oil as the inherent moisture content tends to inhibit the required penetration of the Osmo Product. To use this the moisture content should be below 20%
