Osmo Oils are high quality woodcare specialists that have been creating sustainable, natural woodcare products for over 40 years. Offering woodcare products for every wooden surface booth indoors and outdoors, you’ll be sure to find the right wood protection oil or wax to meet your needs. From Anti-Slip Decking Oil for outdoor decking areas, Door Oil for interior wooden doors, Polyx-Oil for interior wooden floors and wooden furniture and even UV Protection Oil for exterior timber like sheds and fences.

If you’re treating wood as a DIY project for the first time, Osmo products are easy to apply and produce long lasting results with high coverage. We recommend reading our guide on how to paint exterior woodwork too, it will help give you an idea of everything you need to do the job.

We highly recommend the Osmo range as not only is it made from renewable, sustainable vegetable and plant-based oils and hard waxes meaning it’s environmentally friendly and safe for use around children and pets, it also offers long lasting results with brilliant coverage too, almost double that of regular woodcare ranges. So while it may appear a little more expensive initially, your product goes further and results last longer than most, meaning fewer touch ups and less frequent renovation saving time and money.

Wood can be a tricky surface to deal with but with Osmo products there is no sanding required if renovating and usually one coat is enough or if treating fresh wood, two coats is advised for best results. All Osmo products are easy to apply and are highly resistant to cracks, blisters and peeling once dry. Creating a microporous surface that is water repellent, Osmo oils and waxes protect and treat wood without drying it out.

Most Osmo oils are touch dry after 24 hours however they do not fully cure until around 10-14 days. However we always recommend you check the details on the tin of your specific Osmo product.

If you’re looking to oil wooden kitchen worktops, we recommend Osmo Top Oil which is a clear oil-wax combination for treating furniture and kitchen worktops made of wood. Based on natural plant oils and waxes, this top oil creates a microporous surface that will not crack, peel, flake or blister. Resistant against wine, beer, cola, coffee, tea, fruit juice, milk and water in accordance with German DIN 68861-1A, you won’t find water spots after use.

You might wonder how many coats of Osmo top Oil you’ll need for kitchen worktops and you’ll be glad to know that only one coat is required for renovation and two coats on bare wood.

The best way to oil our kitchen workstops is to apply a thin first coat of Osmo Top Oil along the wood grain with an Osmo Microfibre Roller, Flat Brush or Oil Finish Applicator Fleece allowing it to dry for approx. 8-10 hours afterwards in a well-ventilated area. Apply the second coat with an Osmo Oil Finish Applicator Fleece or a lint-free cloth. For renovations, one coat applied to the clean and dry surface with an Oil Finish Applicator Fleece or lint-free cloth is usually sufficient.

Osmo Door Oil is ready to use which means there is no need to thin, simply shake well before use and clean old microporous stains thoroughly as well as removing old paints, varnishes and lacquers.

For quick and easy application, apply using the Osmo Flat Brush or Osmo Microfibre Roller, applying thinly and evenly to the clean and dry wood along the grain, spreading well. Allow for good ventilation while drying and once dry, apply a second coat – also thinly.

If you’re looking to oil wooden floors, look no further than their best selling Osmo Polyx-Oil in a range of finishes including satin and matt. A stain resistant, water repellent and abrasion resistant oil, it is perfect for interior wooden floors and furniture. Offering an even finish thanks to plant based ingredients, Polyx Oil is super quick to apply without even the need for a primer or sanding. Resistant to cracks, peeling and flaking, it is a hard wearing choice that is safe for use on children’s toys and furniture as well.

Applying Osmo Polyx Oil is super easy to do, simply prepare the surface, ensure the wood is clean and dry with any microporous stain thoroughly washed and any cracks or holes in the wood filled adequately. Apply a thin coat along the wood grain and spread well using the Osmo Flat Brush, Floor Brush, Roller or Fleece Applicator with Hand Pad Holder. Do not thin the oil and leave to dry for between 8-10 hours with good ventilation.

After drying, apply a second coat thinly. After 2-3 weeks the surface will be fully cured. If applying to a surface that has already been oiled, one coat is enough. Do not apply too generously or drying times will be extended.

If you are maintaining wood outside like treating wooden sheds, fences or panelling, The Paint Shed recommend Osmo Natural Woodstain which is extremely weather proof. Osmo Natural Oil Woodstain is a transparent, satin wood finish based on natural oils, suitable for all outdoor wood. Creating a microporous surface allowing the wood to breathe, reduce swelling and shrinkage, this water-repellent, extremely weatherproof and UV-stable coating will not crack, peel, flake or blister. Rich in active ingredients for the protection of the coating against mould, algae and fungal attack, this clear woodstain has proven itself for decades under extreme climatic conditions.

Applying Osmo Natural Woodstan couldn't be easier, simply ensure that your wood surface is clean, dry and frost-free (moisture content max. 20%) and that you use the Osmo Flat Brush or Microfibre Roller, spreading out a thin coat evenly along wood grain.
