Cuprinol 5 Year Ducksback is a wood stain with an advanced wax enriched, water repellent and non-drip formulation that colours and weatherproofs rough sawn sheds and fences for up to 5 years. Cuprinol 5 year Ducksback is quick drying and showerproof in 1 hour, low odour and safe to use around plants and pets.

While Ducksback is not deep penetrating, it very much relies on the timber texture for adhesion. For this reason it is recommended for rough sawn timber only. If the construction contains smooth timber components, or has lost texture through weathering then adhesion performance will be reduced. For smooth wood, Garden Shades or Ultimate Garden Wood Preserver can be used. Both products can be applied to rough and smooth wood.

Applying Cuprinol 5 Year Ducksback

We reccomend that you apply 2-3 coats along the wood grain using a brush or roller to a clean, dry area free from debris, dirt or dust. Stir thoroughly before use and always try a test area first to ensure that colour and adhesion are acceptable.

Allow 2-4 hours between coats under normal weather conditions and avoid painting if rain is due before the stain dries fully.

Please note that the colour in the tin may be different to the final shade when dry. Where a strong colour change is involved, more coats may be required so if using more than one tin, it is advisable to mix them together in a larger container or finish painting in a corner before starting a new can.

Customer Questions
Hi there I wondered if I can apply Cuprinol Ducksback on a metal shed? Thanks

No we wouldn't recommend Cuprinol Ducksback for metal surfaces, this is a woodstain product. We would suggest an exterior metal paint instead, perhaps Zinsser Allcoat or any of the other exterior metal paints available onsite.

Would it be ok to use this paint, to cover a shed that’s already been painted
Yes, Cuprinol Ducksback can be used to paint over a shed that has already been painted but please note that the colour may differ depending on the colour of the shed in its current state. If this is the case, increase the number of coats that you apply to achieve the desired shade.
will this help protect the wood from damp/fungus etc or do I have to treat the shed first and then paint?

We would recommend treating the shed first with a fungicidal wash. Any existing issues like dampness or fungus should be fully eradicated before applying Ducksback or any other top coat.

Do you need to apply an undercoat to wood beforehand
No, The Cuprinol 5 Year Ducksback would not require an undercoat to wood.

How many windows and doors are there in the area you want to paint?

This is based on a coverage of 10m² per litre of paint and one coat of paint.

Make sure you always check the coverage on the product page before purchasing and, if covering a dark or bright colour, you may need two or three coats.
