Cuprinol Garden Shades is a garden wood paint that has been specially developed to colour and protect sheds, fences and other garden wood with the exception of decking. Its special pigments ensure a rich colour and allow the natural texture of the woodgrain to shine through. It can also be applied on terracotta, brick and stone, to bring beautiful colours to the rest of the garden.

Cuprinol Garden shades offers 6 full years of weather protection on garden wood and produces a matt colour that enhances the wood grain.

Applying Cuprinol Garden Shades

Garden Shades can be applied using a brush or spray to a clean, dry surface. If you’re painting a previously painted surface, you should strip the old coating back to the bare wood. We recommend that you always test a small area first for colour and adhesion.

We also suggest that a minimum of 2 coats are applied and more if a deeper colour is required. All coats should be applied on the same day, no longer than 8 hours apart. If this isn’t possible, lightly sand the surface before applying further coats to ensure good adhesion. Cuprinol Garden Shades will be touch dry in 1 hour under normal weather conditions.

Always make sure wood has been pre-treated with appropriate wood preserver to prevent wood and decay.

Customer Questions
Is this actual paint? Or is it fence stain?
Cuprinol Garden Shades is a garden paint with good opacity after 2-3 coats. It is a relatively thin and slack product by design, it's free-flowing to enable a smooth finish that gets into all the gaps and allows the profile of the wood to be a maintained. As its sprayable, it also needs to be of low viscosity and will be runnier than other traditional paints. This is not a fault. The product will still achieve good opacity in 2 coats over a similar colour, although deeper colours may require a third coat.
Can this paint be used on planed wood as well as rough

Yes, Cuprinol Garden Shades can be applied to either rough or smooth planed wood. The only difference is the coverage.

Coverage per 1L:

  • Smooth planed wood
    • Brush: 10-12m2
    • Spray: 4-5m2
    •
  • Rough sawn wood
    • Brush: 3-5m2
    • Spray: 2-3m2

How many windows and doors are there in the area you want to paint?

This is based on a coverage of 10m² per litre of paint and one coat of paint.

Make sure you always check the coverage on the product page before purchasing and, if covering a dark or bright colour, you may need two or three coats.
