The Paint Shed recommends

Use the Osmo Decking Brush which was tailor-made for decking and allows you to apply the finish while standing for quick and easy results.

Osmo Decking Oil is a translucent, satin finish oil for all wood in outdoor areas but in particular, is best suited to protect and maintain timber decking, garden furniture and privacy screens. It can be tinted into a range of translucent shades to add a hint of colour without masking the wood grain and is suitable for a huge range of woods such as pressure impregnated Pine, Douglas Fir, Cedar, Oak or Bangkirai – also suitable as a transparent colour treatment of Teak, Eucalyptus and other fine woods as well as thermally treated wood. Creating a microporous finish, this decking oil allows the wood to breathe and reduces swelling and shrinkage. Water repellent, extremely weatherproof and UV stable, it will not crack, peel, flake or blister and you can simply recoat without sanding or priming. If an anti-slip finish is required, we recommend the Osmo Anti-Slip Decking Oil.

Preparation and Application of Osmo Decking Oil

For best results, we recommend that wood species with a high content of natural wood extractives need to weather off (min. 4 weeks) before the initial treatment or be cleaned with Osmo Brush Cleaner and Thinner which acts as a degreaser. Resinous wood, such as Larch or Douglas Fir, needs to weather off for at least 6 weeks. Pressure impregnated wood, Massaranduba, Bangkirai or Garapa need to weather off for at least 3 months.

Before you apply, degrey any already greyed wood with Osmo Wood Reviver Power-Gel and ensure the surface is clean, dry, free from previous varnishes and frost-free (moisture content max. 20%). Osmo Decking-Oil is ready to use, simply stir well before use with a flat stirring stick or a spatula. If possible, we suggest that you apply the first coat to all sides before installation. If additional protection against blue stain, rot and insect attack is desired, pre-treat the wood, if possible on all sides, with Osmo WR Impregnation.

To make application a quick and easy process, we recommend that you use a stiff brush like the Osmo Flat Brush or a lint free cloth like the Osmo Fleece Applicator with Hand Holder, applying thinly and evenly to the clean and dry wood surface along wood grain. For an even quicker and easier application, we recommend using Osmo Decking Brush (150 mm) which was tailor-made for decking and allows you to apply the finish while standing. Apply thinly and evenly allowing for good ventilation while drying. Then apply the second coat – also thinly. If a less intenstive colour is desired, the second coat should be carried out with clear Anti-Slip Decking Oil. (Does not apply for clear Teak-Oil 007)

How many windows and doors are there in the area you want to paint?

This is based on a coverage of 10m² per litre of paint and one coat of paint.

Make sure you always check the coverage on the product page before purchasing and, if covering a dark or bright colour, you may need two or three coats.
