    Dulux Trade Stain Block Primer is a water-based primer suitable for use on interior walls and ceilings. It is formulated to prevent the migration of stains through the finished paint film and also to seal and bind dry, friable and powdery interior surfaces such as plaster, brick and distemper. It is the effective treatment for stains caused by: water-based and solvent-based inks, crayon, biro, coffee, grease, scuff marks, water and nicotine.

    For best results, apply 1 coat using a brush or short pile roller. If the stains are stubborn, apply a second coat.

    Can I use Dulux Trade Stain Block Primer over existing paint?
    Yes. The primer can be applied over existing painted surfaces that are sound, clean and dry. There is no need to strip back to bare plaster if the current paint is well-adhered. Any loose, flaking, or poorly adhering paint should be removed before application.
    Why does Dulux Stain Block Primer look patchy when first applied?
    This is normal behaviour. When first applied, Dulux Trade Stain Block Primer draws the stain into itself before sealing it. This is not a defect. Allow the primer to dry fully (6–8 hours), and the surface will even out. Apply a second coat if any staining remains visible.
    Do I need to fix the source of damp before using Dulux Trade Stain Block Primer?
    Yes. The primer will treat the visible stain on the surface, but it does not resolve the underlying cause. Always ensure the original source of damp or water ingress has been fixed before applying. Using the primer over an active damp problem will not produce a lasting result.
    Does Dulux Trade Stain Block Primer block odours?
    Yes. When applied to surfaces affected by smoke damage or nicotine staining, the primer seals the surface and helps minimise the migration of odours through the finished paint film. For severe odour issues caused by heavy smoke contamination, wash the surface down with an appropriate detergent solution first to remove surface deposits before applying the primer. Apply a second coat if required for best results.
