Dust Sheets for Decorating Projects

The right dust sheet depends on the surface you're protecting, the type of work you're doing and whether you need reusable or short-term protection. Consider the material, size, construction and level of protection you need.

1. Select the correct type for the surface

Start with the material and level of protection you need:

2. Match it to the work

Consider the type of decorating work you’re doing and how much protection you’ll need.

• General painting projects and decorating: Cotton provides absorbent protection against dust, small paint splashes and debris and can be reused when suitable for the job.

• Work where paint splashes, drips or spills are more likely: Consider a water-resistant poly-backed option or polythene sheet for additional protection against liquids.

• Larger decorating projects: The ProDec Polythene Roll can be cut to the required length and width when covering larger or unusual spaces.

3. Choose the right size

Measure the space before you buy. Choose a dust sheet long and wide enough to fully cover the area, including the edges you're protecting.

For larger or awkwardly shaped areas, a polythene roll offers more flexibility because you can cut it to the required size.

4. Decide whether you need reusable protection

If you're a trade professional or regularly take on decorating projects, a reusable cotton or cotton twill dust sheet can be a practical choice. For quick, one-off jobs, a lightweight polythene sheet may be more convenient.

Always check the individual product specifications and care instructions before cleaning or reusing a dust sheet.

5. Plan your additional wall & floor protection

Dust sheets cover larger areas, but some jobs need more targeted protection. Consider masking film for walls, windows and finished surfaces that need additional protection.
