What is Jotun Paint?
Jotun, also referred to as Jotun Visir, is one of the biggest paint companies in the world. Known for both interior and exterior paint, they’re seen as one of the best around when it comes to dependable exterior paint. Founded in Sandefjord, Norway back in 1926, the company had a humble beginning by specialising in marine paint. With the area known as a port town for ships, Jotun quickly got a reputation as the company to use if you wanted your boat painted while it was being repaired.
Over the mid to late 20th century, Jotun became a familiar name in ports around the world, until their paint was seen as a dependable choice for working on exterior paint jobs at home and pretty much any building that needed it. Their Demidekk brand range is seen as the go-to choice for outdoor use, especially Demidekk Ultimate Windows & Doors, which can be mixed in a range of colours.
For anyone new to the world of painting outdoors, it is worthwhile reading our exterior painting guides, which help with jobs like painting garden furniture to working with a concrete patio.
Why Jotun Paint?
When working with any surface, you’ll want to use a product which you feel will be dependable and durable. This is something Jotun ticks both boxes for. Their paint works incredibly well, especially if you’re working in your garden and want a product which has no trouble providing adequate wood protection.
Jotun products will almost always have fungicides in the paint too, which helps immensely as the years go by to protect the surface from any nasty build-up.
Getting Ready to Use Jotun
Any paint job, especially if you’re going to be outside, is something you don’t want to carry out without taking all the right precautionary measures first. That is why we believe it is important to use a Jotun Primer first.
The original Jotun Visir Prime Clear is a solvent-borne primer you would use to apply translucent stains on new and weatherworn external woodwork if you were trying to keep wood looking as close to its original finish as possible. If you were after a primer which provided colour that resembles woodwork, Jotun Visir Pigmented Primer is the way to go.
(It is important to note that Jotun Primers are not recommended for use on hardwoods. If you wanted one which is, please visit our woodcare section for suitable products.)
