FAQs
The best type of paint for a skirting board is one that offers durability, this is due to the fact skirting boards typically have to withstand knocks, scuffs and scratches over time. So what paint finishes and products would we recommend:
- Johnstone's TradeAcrylic Durable Eggshell Brilliant White - a staple and favourite, also scrubbable
- Dulux Once Satinwood Brilliant White
- Farrow and Ball Full Gloss
The easiest way to paint your skirting board when you have carpet down is firstly:
- Start with giving your skirting boards a wipe down to remove any dirt or dust and allow to dry fully
- Prepare your carpet by applying a low tack but wide-set mashing tape along the edge of the carpet overhanging the skirting board - tuck the access under the skirting board to further protect your carpet. This is easily achieved by pushing the edges down with a scraper, or similar piece of equipment.
- If you have dust sheets, it is also worthwhile to put dust sheets down, further minimising any spillages or issues with your carpet coming into contact with paint.
