The preparation to your surface will depend on the surface you are painting. For metal and uPVC cladding, you need to make sure you have removed any dirt or debris from the cladding. If your surface is rusted, ensure any rust is removed. This is important to ensure the paint adheres well to the surface, and you do not experience any peeling or cracking of the topcoat. Once your surface is clean and fully dry you can apply your chosen top coat. If you opt for a metal cladding paint like Zinsser Allcoat, this can be applied directly to the cladding without the need for a primer.
