The Paint Shed recommends

Low maintenance, self-priming exterior paint that can be applied to almost any surface including metal, wood, uPVC, plastic and concrete.

Zinsser Allcoat Exterior Satin Water Based Paint is a high performing mould resistant paint for exterior surfaces including wood, metal, masonry, cladding, plastic, and concrete. It can even be applied to previously painted surfaces without sanding, over glossy paints or those coated with bitumen, tar varnish or creosote. A highly durable paint thanks to its breathable, water shedding coating rich in biocides to protect against fungal degradation, it has an expected life span of up to 15 years.

Offering high levels of resistance against cracking, blistering, and flaking, it creates a tough coating that will withstand the toughest of weather conditions keeping its depth of colour and tough finish.

If you’re looking to freshen up exterior surfaces, you can’t go wrong with Zinsser Allcoat Exterior. A perfect garage door paint or front door paint, you can buy it here in hundreds of tinted colours or why not buy it in classic black.

Preparation and Application

For best results, remove any existing mould or mildew and apply two coats using a brush, roller or spray. There is no need to prime before applying Allcoat to most surfaces as it is a self-priming paint. The first coat primes and seals the surface, providing a base for the top coat. The top coat completes the sealing process while providing additional moisture resistance and protection.

A quick and easy to apply exterior paint, it is touch dry after just half an hour and is ready for a recoat after one full hour.

If you are painting bare ferrous metal, prime with Zinsser Coverstain and abrade and degrease unweathered powder coatings before painting.

Does this paint paint over rusty metal

Zinsser Allcoat Water Based Exterior Satin can be painted over rust-stained metal but we recommend that the surface is free from any flaking or peeling rust and has been washed using a cloth and methylated spirits before painting over. If there is flaking or peeling rust, lightly sand this down to remove it.

is this paint ok to use straight on aluminium sheets

Zinsser Allcoat can be applied directly to the aluminium sheets if being used indoors but if for exterior surfaces, we would recommend priming first with Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3.

Can this paint be used on interior wood as it’s water based?
Yes Zinsser Allcoat Water Based Exterior Satin is suitable for interior wood too.
Is Zinsser Allcoat any good on smooth masonry that has a problem with flaking previously?
Zinsser Allcoat is a durable paint finish that resists flakes or cracks but when applying to a surface already prone to this, we advise thorough preparation to clean the surface and remove any loose or flaking paint before applying the Allcoat.
Can you paint over existing exterior woodstain with Zinsser Allcoat?

Yes, if the surface is sound you can apply Zinsser Allcoat without having to be sand back to bare wood.

Can you use Allcoat on k rend?
We wouldn't recommend painting K Rend without consulting a specialist who can best advise what coating should be used. Applying a standard masonry paint or a premium option like Allcoat could compromise the render system.

Yes, Zinsser Allcoat is suitable for use on composite fencing.
What is the cure time?
Full cure of Zinsser Allcoat Water Based Exterior Satin takes 7 days.

We wouldn't recommend applying Zinsser Allcoat to radiators as it isn't heat resistant. Instead, try Tikkurila Everal Aqua Semi Matt 40 which is a semi-matt enamel coating resistant to higher temperatures.

Can Zinsser Allcoat water based paint be used externally on white uPVC windows?
Zinsser Allcoat Water-Based Exterior Satin is the perfect paint for uPVC windows and doors thanks to its self-priming, durable formula.
Can you use Zinsser Allcoat on fibre glass garage doors?

You can use Zinsser Allcoat on fibre glass doors but we recommend priming first with Zinsser Bullseye 1-2-3 to ensure good adhesion.
