- Lay down a dust sheet to prevent damage from drips
- Sand the radiator down
- Apply at least one coat of a metal primer paint
- Use the correct paint for the job
- Leave plenty of time for the paint to dry

The best paint to use is a high quality satinwood radiator paint - this has a great finish and is suited to constant changes in temperature.
The easiest way to paint behind a radiator without removing it is by using a long-reach radiator brush, this avoids issues with having to try and remove a radiator from a wall as you can paint all the hard to reach areas. Alternatively, you could colour match your radiator to the colour of the wall behind your radiator as this is becoming a popular trend.
