    Johnstone's Trade Aqua Undercoat is an innovative, water-based undercoat ideal for interior and exterior wood and metals. It looks, feels, and applies like a traditional undercoat but is quick-drying - reducing application time. Designed for use under the Johnstone's Trade Aqua Water Based Gloss or Satin for best results but also suitable for use under other water-based paints. A low odour, low VOC solution. 

    Applying Johnstone's Trade Aqua Undercoat 

    For best results apply to a clean, dry surface using a synthetic brush. Avoid overspreading.

    Is the aqua system 100%water based
    No, the Johnstone's Trade Aqua Water Based Undercoat contains 8% oil. 
    Can you paint this undercoat over sanded previous oil based paint.
    We wouldn't recommend it, for best results continue with an oil based product or strip the wood fully before using the Aqua undercoat.
    Can I use it on fence then paint over it with fence paint

    We would recommend that you apply Johnstone's Trade Joncryl Primer before painting over with fence paint as the Aqua undercoat is best before applying Aqua paint.

    How long is drying time before you can apply first coat
    Johnstone's Trade Aqua Water Based Undercoat White is ready for recoat or the first coat of paint after 4-6 hours to allow for full drying.
    Can I use this as MDF primer

    No, we recommend Johnstone's Trade Joncryl Primer for MDF or a specific MDF primer instead.

    Can you paint Johnstone's Trade Aqua Water Based Undercoat on glass?

    Yes, you can apply Johnstone's Trade Aqua Water Based Undercoat to glass but only after a coat of Zinsser Bulls Eye first to ensure adhesion.

    Yes, you can spray Aqua Water Based Undercoat safely and for best results thin using clean water by no more than 10%.

Yes, The Johnstone's Trade Aqua Water Based Undercoat would be suitable if the surface was sanded down. Can you paint this undercoat over sanded previous oil based paint.     No, The Oil based Gloss would have to sanded completely back and removed before applying the Johnstone's Trade Aqua Water Based Undercoat.
    Can I use this product in. Hallway where it has continuous traffic and lots of scuff marks?
    Yes, The Johnstone's Trade Aqua Water Based Undercoat can be used. We would recommend a durable top coat.
    Can I use this product to cure water ingress on my shed, to paint inside and out?
    No, The Johnstone's Trade Aqua Water Based Undercoat can not be applied. We would recommend that you cure the problem then use damp proof paint or something similar
    Can I use this as a primer on hardwood?
    Yes, this is suitable for hardwood, iron, steel, softwood and timber.
