Expert Decorator Insight
What technical characteristics should customers look for beyond colour and finish when choosing trade paints?
The overall performance of a paint makes a huge difference, which is why decorators tend to opt for trade paint over cheaper retail products. If the paint you're applying is porous and chalky, then the second coat is likely to drag, resulting in defects like flashing and picture framing. If the paint has poor covering power, you'll need to apply additional coats, which takes longer and costs more.
A good-quality trade paint that's easy to apply, has good opacity, and suits the environment you're applying it in will always result in a better finish that's likely to last longer.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Dulux Trade Weathershield Exterior Paint System is a range of products designed to work together to help protect exterior surfaces from the weather. Depending on the surface and its condition, the paints required may include:
-
Preparation
-
A suitable primer and or undercoat, if required
-
Dulux Trade Weathershield topcoat
Using the recommended products for your surface can improve adhesion, durability and the overall finish. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for the specific Dulux Trade Weathershield product you are using.
Usually, yes. Primer improves adhesion, seals porous surfaces and blocks stains from bleeding through. That said, it's less necessary when repainting a surface already in good condition with a matching colour, or when using a combined paint-and-primer product.
Most latex exterior paints need a minimum of about 10°C to cure properly, though some cold-weather formulas can go as low as 2°C. Cold temperatures can cause poor adhesion, cracking or a chalky finish. Also consider the overnight low, as it matters for curing.
