When it comes to choosing bathroom paints, it is important you take 3 key factors into account. 1 - humidity - understandably your bathroom will experience high levels of humidity which can compromise the performance of your paint. If you are in this position, make sure you consider Benjamin Moore Aqura Bath & Spa or Zinsser Perma White paints. 2 - you need to know the look you are trying to achieve, currently flat matt paints are most popular throughout the home, if this is the look you are trying to achieve we would recommend you opt for Dulux Trade Diamond Matt, Farrow and Ball Modern Emulsion or Little Greene Intelligent Matt Emulsion. Finally, if you want your paint to have longevity, not require regular re-coats and can be simply washed, or wiped clean, then we suggest you opt for a durable paint like Benjamin Moore Scuff-X or Crown Trade Clean Extreme.
If you do not take high levels of humidity into account you can run the risk of your bathroom walls developing mould. To avoid this, opt for Benjamin Moore Aura Interior Matt or Zinsser Perma White Matt.
The best way to paint a bathroom in 6 simple steps involves:
1. Clear the room - removing any decorations, essentials or hardware will minimise the risk of getting paint on any other items in your bathroom. Also remember to tape up and/or cover doors, knobs and similar to achieve a professional finish.
2. Protect floors & woodwork - cover your floors with dust sheets, ensuring you do not end up with any undesired mess from paint splashes, or spills during your painting.
3. Fill any cracks and remove any old flaking paint - make any required repairs with fillers, leave to dry and sand until smooth.
4. Priming - if you're painting the walls a colour that is significantly different from what is there at the moment, a primer coat is recommended.
5. Paint your trim - we always recommend painting the trim of your room before the walls are painted, begin with your skirting boards, following by window trim, door trim and any moulding.
6. Paint the walls & ceiling - after you have cut in around your trim, leave to try then apply your chosen paint with a roller on your walls and ceilings. Remember to apply a minimum of two coats, and leave adequate drying time between coats.
To make sure you pick the best bathroom paint, take the below into consideration:
1. Your desired look
2. Your paint finish
3. Your paint specification - do you need this to be wipeable, durable, resistant to humidity?
4. Your colour
5. Choose a high-quality trade paint that will last years, and offer added durability
