What is Sadolin?

Sadolin is part of the Crown Paints family who have been producing quality paints for over 200 years. The Sadolin woodcare range is specially formulated for use in gardens, or anywhere outside, where you’re working with wood as well as interior wood projects like interior wooden doors and windows.

Is Sadolin oil or water based?

Sadolin offer oil and water based products in their range.

What is the difference between Sadolin Classic and Sadolin Extra?

Sadolin Classic and Sadolin Extra can be used on their own or for best results, used together. Both are woodstains that can either be clear or tinted to any colour of your choice with Sadolin Classic best for building colour, body and forming a sold base while Sadolin Extra has added UV protection which extends the longevity of the finish. Using Classic as a basecoat with Extra as a topcoat will provide the best result.

How many coats of Sadolin do I need?

Depending on your surface, 2 coats of Sadolin is usually enough.

Is Sadolin Beautiflex a paint or a stain?

Sadolin Beautiflex is a stain rather than a paint but it does build colour really well so is great for when you want to add colour to outdoor wood.

Sadolin is a range of woodstains rather than paints but some products such as Beautiflex or Extra build colour well and have high opacity which creates a depth of colour.

Why Sadolin?

We like Sadolin for their durability and how well it can tackle rough surfaces. A coat of Sadolin can be applied to rough sawn fences and unsanded decking without any issues and their woodstain has some of the best durability in the market. Products like Sadolin Beautiflex even offer UV protection which extends the lifetime of the finish and means it’s super low maintenance.

How long will Sadolin last?

With proper application using Sadolin Classic as a basecoat and Extra as a top coat, the finish will last between 4-5 years.

Can I paint my fence with Sadolin?

Yes, Sadolin is the perfect product for fences either new or old. Start with a basecoat of Sadolin Classic and top with Sadolin Extra or Beautiflex for a long lasting, durable finish that won’t need refreshed for 4-5 years.

Can I use Sadolin on my decking?

Yes, we recommend that you use Sadolin Decking Stain & Protector when painting garden decking.

Can I spray Sadolin?

We recommend that you apply Sadolin with a long bristle brush for best results and longevity of the finish.

Can you use Sadolin on interior wood?

Yes you can use Sadolin on interior wood. We recommend Sadolin Polyurethane Extra Durable Varnish for interior wooden bannisters, windowsills, doors and all almost all other internal joinery inside thanks to its tough, hard wearing finish; resistant to stains and spills. It is available in a matt varnish or a satin varnish.

Can I use Sadolin on interior wooden floors?

Yes you can varnish interior wooden flooring with Sadolin Polyurethene Floor Varnish for a long lasting, durable finish on wooden floors. Suitable for use on all wooden flooring, including hardwood, softwood boards and parquet.

With Sadolin making the majority of their products for wood, especially doors, you’ll want to get door frames, skirting boards and floors protected. If you don’t already, get some masking tape to keep within lines and dust sheets, so no unwanted paint drops get on the floor.
