Start with a sample pot
If you are looking for a green paint colour scheme throughout a gender-neutral nursery or children's room, you should start by buying some sample pots in your favourite shades of green. It's always good to try a colour at home in the space you intend to use it, to see how it looks in different lights throughout the day.
You might want to consider painting your woodwork the same colour as the walls, often seen in period properties or painting them a lighter green or darker green as a nice contrast.Â
Don't forget the ceiling. Leaving it bright white can throw the whole scheme off so try a lighter shade here or wrap the colour from the walls over the ceiling too for a harmonious finish.
How to correctly use a sample pot?
For the most accurate results, we suggest ordering sample pots of your chosen shades. Apply two full coats of each colour onto separate sheets of A3 paper. This allows you to move the samples around the room, placing them on different walls and in various lighting conditions - natural daylight, artificial light, and evening light as these all have a significant impact on how the colour will appear.
Take your time with this process, it’s not worth rushing. This will give you a true sense of how each shade will appear in your surroundings and with your furnishings. Once you’ve found the colour that feels just right, you can then buy a larger tin, plus if you sign-up to our newsletter you’ll get 5% off your first order (we recommend keeping this for your larger tin of paint).
