Can you thin it down
yes, you can thin the Macpherson Trade High Opacity Undercoat White. We would recommend that it is thinned with 10% of white spirit.
So can you not use non gloss paint as a top coat as the product description states: "It flows easily and has great covering power; the perfect non-absorbant base to achieve maximum impact from high-sheen gloss paint." ???
