The Paint Shed recommends
A breathable, UV resistant finish ideal for exterior wooden doors, fences and summer houses.
Osmo UV Protection Oil Extra is a clear satin wood finish based on natural oil for wood in outdoor areas including doors, windows, window shutters, carports, timber cladding, balconies, fences, pergolas, summer houses and bamboo poles (e.g. in screens). Rich in active ingredients to protect the coating against mould, algae and fungal attack, the Extra range offers additional protection in comparison to the regular UV Protection Oil.
This UV protecting wood oil works by creating a microporous surface allowing the wood to breathe and reduce swelling and shrinkage. Water-repellent, it will not crack, peel or flake either.
Used as a top coat on already colour treated wood, Clear 420 Osmo UV-Protection-Oil reduces the time to reapply significantly. It blocks the greying process with a UV protection factor 12 in comparison to untreated wood when two coats are applied.
We recommend a coloured base coat first such as the Osmo Natural Oil Woodstain or Osmo Country Colour.
Preparation and Application of Osmo 420 UV Protection Oil Extra
For best results we recommend that the wood surface is be clean, dry and frost-free (moisture content max. 20%). Osmo UV-Protection-Oil is ready to use, there is no need to thin, simply stir well with a flat stirring stick or a spatula. Clean any old stains off and remove any previous paint coatings before applying Osmo UV Protection Oil and if renovating an existing wood surface, we suggest that you degrey any already greyed areas with Osmo Wood Reviver Power Gel before applying.
Where you are building something like a summer house, we suggest that where possible, you apply the first coat to all sides before building. Fresh wood containing natural wood extractives and especially hard woods, needs to weather off (for approximately 6 weeks) after building. By this point the wood becomes absorbent and the wood finish adheres optimally.
For ease of application, we recommend that you apply with the Osmo Flat Brush or Microfibre Roller, applying thinly along the wood grain and spreading well. Allow to dry for approx. 12 hours under good ventilation. Then apply the second coat. When recoating colour treated surfaces, or for renovation works, one coat applied to the clean and dry surface is usually sufficient.
