Johnstone's Trade Smooth Metal Paint is a primer and top coat in one. A solvent-based gloss finish, it can be applied directly to bare, previously painted or rusted surfaces. It offers up to 5 years of protection, longer than a regular maintenance cycle with other similar products on the market.

Rich in anti-corrosive properties whilst maintaining excellent adhesion attributes, the Johnstone's Trade Smooth Metal Paint doesn't require a primer as it can be applied onto corroded surfaces and provides good resistance to water, humidity, hot salt spray and UVA. Particularly suitable for renovation of corroded substrates after the manual removal of loose layers of rust, it can also be used on steel cast iron and other steel elements.

Applying Johnstone's Trade Smooth Metal Paint

For best results, remove any flaking or peeling previous paint and remove as much rust as possible before applying 2 coats using a brush.

Customer Questions
Can this be used to paint lead flashing?

No, We would recommend priming the area with a Zinsser Bullseye and then applying Demi Dekk Ultimate

Can you apply this to galvinised steel?
Yes, The Johnstone's Trade Smooth Metal Paint can be applied to Galvinised Steel
Can this be used on a exterior metal staircase? Would it be Durable enough? Thanks
Yes, however this has no anti slip properties and is not designed to withstand being walked on. We would advise using an anti slip floor paint.
What is the most durable paint for aluminium and cast iron guttering in a marine environment? We are only about one hundred metres from the sea and get a lot of sea spray.

You can use Johnstone's Trade Smooth Metal however we would recommend Temac Marine Gloss as this is designed to withstand the harsh conditions of marine environments, including saltwater, UV, and temperature fluctuations, without deteriorating or fading.

Can I paint galvanised garage door partly painted
Yes Johnstone's Trade Smooth Metal Paint can be used but only if the bare part of the door is weathered otherwise you may need to use a Red-oxide primer.
Can it go on plastic?
Smooth Metal paint is only suitable for Metal. Depending on the plastic we may advise using Zinsser Allcoat Exterior.

How many windows and doors are there in the area you want to paint?

This is based on a coverage of 10m² per litre of paint and one coat of paint.

Make sure you always check the coverage on the product page before purchasing and, if covering a dark or bright colour, you may need two or three coats.
