Blue Nursery Colours

When it comes to creating a baby boy's nursery, blue remains a timeless and versatile choice — but that doesn’t mean you have to stick to the traditional pale baby blue. There’s a whole spectrum of blue tones that feel modern, calming, and anything but predictable.

Whether you’re drawn to something soft and serene or a shade with a touch of depth and sophistication, these blues offer a fresh take on classic nursery colours. We’ve selected some of our favourite options that are perfect for creating a peaceful, stylish space for your little one. Think subtle grey-blues, dusky cornflower tones, and soft sky-inspired hues — all designed to grow with your child and create a space that feels both soothing and enduring.

We stock paints from all the top trade paint brands that can be colour-matched to any of the colours you see below or elsewhere, as well as the designer ranges themselves such as Little Greene, Farrow and Ball, Dulux Heritage and Craig and Rose.

Creating a Blue Nursery Colour Scheme

If you’re looking to introduce blue into a baby's nursery, start by picking up a few sample pots in your favourite shades. Blue can shift dramatically depending on natural and artificial lighting, so it's always best to see how it looks throughout the day in your own space.

Not ready to go all-in on blue? Try painting just one feature wall, such as behind the cot or changing table, to add a pop of colour without overwhelming the room. Panelling in a mid or soft blue is another great option — it adds depth and detail while keeping the overall look calm and classic.

You might want to consider painting the woodwork in the same blue as the walls or add contrast by picking a slightly lighter or darker tone to add contrast and interest. Blue also pairs beautifully with soft neutrals and sandy beiges offering a more balanced and modern take on the traditional nursery palette.

And don’t forget the ceiling! Keeping it a bright white can sometimes clash with softer wall shades. Instead, why not try a lighter blue tone, or wrap your chosen wall colour onto the ceiling to create a cocooning, seamless finish.
