What is Jotun Demidekk Paint?
Some people may formerly know Jotun Demidekk as Butinox. A few years later Jotun decided to replace the entire Butinox range and make it Demidekk. They reasoned that the new range would provide users with a higher quality product which can last longer (Butinox had an 8-guarantee while Demidekk has 12).
While you wouldn’t visibly notice much difference between the two, you are getting a longer-lasting product for pretty much the same price.
This type of paint is ideal if you’re looking for something to use on:
- Exterior woodwork
- Wooden doors
- Window frames
The paint can work alongside wooden structures that need to “breathe”, and you’ll tend to find that the paint can move without cracking as wood expands and contracts throughout the seasons.
Why Jotun Demidekk Paint?
We like Jotun Demidekk paint because it takes colour well. It can be hard to find an oil/acrylic binder which will happily allow for a custom shade or colour. Demidekk does though.
If you were working solely on rough wood, timber or cladding, we recommend using Demidekk Ultimate. This paint can sit nicely on top of wood you’ve already painted without needing to do much sanding or prep work.
Demi Ultimate for Windows and Doors is a bit like Ronseal in that it does exactly what it says on the tin. You would be better using this paint when working on smooth surfaces like a sanded door, window frame, new woodwork or smooth metal.
Getting ready to paint
Painting on wood and metal is the same as a wall, but you need to ensure you’re fully prepared.
As with any paint job on a surface, use a premium primer or undercoat first to avoid any problems. On exterior wood, the likes of Jotun Visir Primer Clear or Dulux Trade Quick Drying Wood Priming Undercoat work wonders.
And double-check you have the right painting accessories handy before popping open the lid and getting to it.
