What is Farrow & Ball Paint?
Farrow and Ball has inspired designers and decorators since 1946 with an extensive and timeless range of high-quality, intensely pigmented paints. Born from a passion for colour and chemistry, Farrow and Ball paint is characterised by its chalky matt finish and rich complex colour with light reflecting properties, which gives subtle variations in colour depending on the light.
The History of Farrow and Ball
Farrow and Ball began in Dorset, by local pioneers John Farrow and Richard Ball. Interestingly, Farrow was a trained chemist working for Ireland’s Agnew Paints during the Second World War, while Ball was an engineer who survived capture as a prisoner of war.
After meeting at a local clay pit and sharing their joint passion for creating rich colours and original formulations, Farrow and Ball was founded.

Here are a few more reasons why Farrow & Ball is a popular choice.
Eco Friendly
All Farrow and Ball paints are produced with an eco-friendly water base with minimal or low VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds). This makes them low odour and safe for the whole family and the environment. Farrow and Ball paints are also packaged in recyclable tins, and all ingredients are sensibly sourced to minimise any negative environmental impact.
Washable Finishes
A number of Farrow and Ball interior paints are washable, including Estate Eggshell, Modern Emulsion, Modern Eggshell, plus the interior and exterior Full Gloss. Note that Farrow and Ball Estate Emulsion is wipeable but not washable.
Exterior Paints
Farrow and Ball Exterior Eggshell and Exterior Masonry paints can withstand the elements and are perfect for masonry projects, while Farrow and Ball Full Gloss is resistant to water for up to 6 years. Their interior paints, including Estate Emulsion, Estate Eggshell, Modern Emulsion and Modern Eggshell, are all wipeable.
Breathable
Farrow and Ball Exterior Eggshell and Exterior Masonry paints are formulated to be breathable. This means moisture can escape from the surface without compromising the integrity of the finish. This breathability is especially important for traditional and older buildings, where it helps minimise issues such as blistering, flaking, and trapped dampness.
