Finding Your Perfect Palette

Once you have settled on a paint suitable for your surface (if not, follow our guide here) the next step is to decide on your colour and finish. Establishing a colour palette is an important part of the painting process, it makes finding complementary shades easier later down the line.

To begin to map out your colour palette, start by finding points of inspiration. Inspiration can be found anywhere; in seasons, interests, hobbies, memories, travel, featured furniture and even Pinterest. Take a note of anything you like, and begin pairing corresponding colours together. 

Once you’ve found your focal point, test it out. Check whether a colour palette works in your home with sample pots. Pick them up at The Paint Shed from brands such as Farrow & Ball, Little Greene and Johnstones. Tester pots are a fantastic way to play around with colour, and figure out where it will look best. You can apply a sample directly to your wall or another option is to paint an A4 piece of paper and hang it around your house. This can help you uncover what your preferred shade will look like against different furniture, in different lights and at different times of the day.
