Tips & Advice for using Anthracite Grey Paint
It isn’t often that you can call a certain paint colour “trendy”, but that is pretty much what anthracite grey is right now. You see it pop up a lot in homes across the UK, not only in kitchens and bathrooms but on front doors, gates, and floors. Even walking into a certain fast-food chain with golden arches, you’ll notice many of the fixtures are now anthracite.
So what should you know about this colour to use it effectively? Our main tip for using anthracite grey would be to pair it with any wall, surface of furniture you want to have a contemporary look, before balancing it against a flat matt white or eggshell paint. As it has a duller tone, you wouldn’t want to contrast it against a high gloss white or colour paint.
That doesn’t mean you can’t get glossy with it. A product like Armstead Trade Tinted Anthracite looks great on exterior fences and doors. Still, it is best to lean on glossier greys outside. And if you’re looking for an anthracite grey you can use in high traffic/ public-facing areas you want to remain durable for years, Crown Clean Extreme Matt is a great product.
What Colour is Anthracite Grey?
Anthracite Grey is a deep, almost black shade of grey. Depending on the lighting, it can appear either black or a dark grey with blue undertones. If you're looking for a multi-surface ready-mixed anthracite grey we highly recommend Zinsser Allcoat, this self-priming paint can be applied to various surfaces - timber, metal, masonry, plastic, concrete, cladding and so much more.
